Juliana Custer is a filmmaker, producer and director based in Portland, Oregon. Her focus lies in creating films that center around the journey to adulthood, while simultaneously challenging the prevailing ideals perpetuated by mainstream American Hollywood. Through her work, she strives to shed light on the experiences of people of color, mental health struggles, and queer narratives.
As a filmmaker, Juliana's primary objective is to amplify the voices of those whose stories are often marginalized. She is particularly drawn to narratives that delve into the complexities of everyday life, embracing both the ordinary and intricate aspects. Being a Mexican-American filmmaker and a second-generation immigrant, she intentionally infuses her projects with elements of her own cultural background and personal experiences. Her hope is to inspire others to embrace their own heritage and incorporate it into their artistic pursuits.
Juliana pursued a film major at Portland State University, where she gained hands-on experience and practical knowledge on various film sets. Currently, she works as a freelance filmmaker, offering her expertise to diverse projects.
